University of Toronto
1976-1982
University of Toronto at Scarborough
As an undergraduate student at U of T, I had most of my classes at this campus. While there I hosted a radio show called The Humour Hour on the campus radio station, and had one of my poems published in the annual literary publication,
Scarborough Fair
.
University of Toronto Department of Sociology
I graduated with an honours (5 year) B.A with a specialists in Sociology, before going on to what was then known as the Faculty of Education at U of T (and is now part of OISE).
Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto
1981-1982 I earned a Bachelor of Education degree (primary/junior) and an Ontario Teacher's Certificate. My favourite professor was David Booth. My, what an amazingly talented and caring person he proved himself to be; an inspiration to thousands of teachers who learned from him in his classes and workshops and from the books he published. He also knew how to have fun! I don't know if David has his own website, but I did find a good infosite about his
books.
Washington Montessori Institute
1982-1983. At the time, WMI was a private institution located in the Dupont Circle area of Washington D.C. on S Street in the NW quadrant. It was, and still is, affiliated with the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI). I earned an AMI diploma in primary education, which qualified me to work with children in Montessori schools between the ages of 6 and 12.
Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning
1986-1987 After a couple of years of teaching in Montessori schools, I went back to my first occupational love, the entertainment industry. In this case, it was to study radio broadcasting at what was then called Humber College of Applied Arts & Technology. Not surprisingly, unlike at teacher's college, I graduated with honours in the one year certificate program for university grads. Highlights of the year, as I recall, were playing the role of Bob Dylan at a press conference, presenting a short speech arguing that Hitler, contrary to the myth, was not a vegetarian, doing unusual voices in class for Stan Larke (e.g. Groucho Marx, W.C. Fields, and some nebish character who never got named). I really enjoyed working with all the talented people there, although I didn't make any really close friends (except maybe the electric gypsy, my fellow prog-rock affectionado, who soon after graduation went off somewhere to pursue his dreams, as gypsies are want to do).
York University Faculty of Education
Here I completed several in service Teacher Education Programs. Computers in Education I & II, Special Education I & 2, Educating the Gifted, Educating the Learning Disabled. I also took a course in teaching English as a Second Language, but due to illness I dropped out and repeated the course later on at the Faculty of Education at University of Toronto, completing it there.
Adler School of Professional Psychology
Originally known as the Alfred Adler Institute, I took courses on both the Toronto and Chicago campuses, graduating in 1993 with a masters degree in counselling psych. I developed a special interest in the relationship between diet, brain functioning, and psychodynamics.
